What You Need to Know About Spring Clean-Up & Mulching for Your Jamison Lawn and Landscape
It’s springtime and your Jamison property needs sprucing up. It’s time to say goodbye to Old Man Winter and hello to the freshness of spring.
What Are Spring Clean-Ups?
This winter’s snow, bitter cold, and ice at the end of winter gave your yard a beating. Now, your lawn needs to be raked out to clear out the winter’s debris.
You may notice spring bulbs pushing their way up out of the soil. Plus, your snowdrops, crocus, and other early spring bulbs are flowering now.
Your flowerbeds and landscaped areas also need spring clean-up done. At Jamison Lawn Care, we provide spring clean-ups for lawns and landscapes. Here’s how we clean up your landscape and yard:
- We gently rake your flowerbeds and landscaped areas to remove trash, dried leaves, and debris leftover from the winter.
- We prune your shrubs and trees, clearing away dead or diseased branches. We also remove any tree sprouts that grow from the root line.
- We pull winter and early spring weeds and turn over existing mulch. We’ll also put down any fertilizer and weed control as requested. Keep in mind that weed control reduces the number of weeds growing in your beds—but you’ll still have stubborn weeds competing for space. And that means you’ll need to weed your landscaped areas occasionally. Learn more: Pricing Lawn and Landscape Services
- We’ll cut back any overgrown or ratty-looking perennials to give your beds a tidy look. We’ll also cut back any spring bulb bloomers that are finished for the season.
- We’ll prepare your flowerbeds for early spring annuals, such as pansies and violas. Soon, we’ll add impatiens, begonias, and petunias to your beds.
- For your Hatboro lawn, we’ll rake out old leaves, thatch, salt damage, and any stones from winter plowing.
- And we’ll mow your turfgrass and edge around your landscaped areas to create clean lines between your lawn and borders.

Flower of the Month: Pansies
Nothing brightens up your front porch and garden borders as pansies do in early March. The multi-colored flowers come in a wide range of hues, including red, russet, yellow, purple, white, umber, blue, and combinations of these colors.
Pansies have overlapping petals that make them look like they have faces. And you can use them in baking too!
Pansies and their cousins, violas, love the cold March air. They’re the first annuals safe to put out in early spring.
You can plant pansies to flow out of urns, terra cotta planters, hanging baskets, or right in the soil along a walkway.

In Pennsylvania, pansies are considered annuals because they die in the summertime. However, you can have your pansies reseed in flowerbeds or container gardens, so they come back again in the fall.
While you can plant pansies by seed, it’s better to buy them as established plants from your independent garden center or nursery. Plant your pansies, so they get morning sunshine; they also like well-drained soil. Remember, pansies thrive in cold weather—they’ll even bounce back after a light frost.
Here are some tips for properly caring for your pansies:
- Water regularly. If your pansies are drooping, give them some water. Not sure if they need water? Then stick your index finger in the pot up to your first knuckle. If it’s dry, then water. If the soil is moist, let it go.
- Use a general, all-purpose fertilizer around your pansies. Don’t use a high nitrogen fertilizer because it’ll encourage leaf growth, but not more blossoms.
- Deadhead spent flowers. It’ll encourage an extended blooming season and more blossoms.
- Pull out your pansies when they start to look leggy; it’s usually time when daytime temperatures regularly rise above 65ºF.
Book us today at Jamison Lawn Care if you’re a busy family or don’t like to garden. We’ll prepare your spring flowerbeds and add pansies to containers to grace your front porch.
